Yatai, as you may already know, is open back at its old home on Skene Street (01224 635480).

We have totally changed the menu which we know maybe a little bit of a disappointment some of you who really loved what we have been doing.

As with the tradition of Yatai we always like to challenge people with new ideas and thinking when it comes to food. On the 14th of August we re-opened with what is known as a Kaiseki menu. Basically this is a traditional art form that balances the taste, texture, appearance, and colors of food. Only fresh seasonal ingredients are used and are prepared to enhance their flavour often from our own garden. Everything is taken into account with Kaiseki. Not only are the dishes carefully presented but the colours and styles of the plates are chosen to enhance the appearance of the ingredients.

This is an experiment for Aberdeen and Scotland as a whole and we desperately want it to succeed, however, your support is the most important part. We invite you to come and experience the new menu with an open mind and let us know, honestly, what you think.

We ask you to indulge us and open your mind to what Scotland has to offer.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Yours sincerely, John, CB, Junko, Rado, Alex, Ivan, Ruairi and Craig

Here is a quick look at a typical weekly menu: Yatai Menu. Please be aware that as we are now sourcing ingredients and produce locally, the menu will change regularly.

Please sign our petition: www.ipetitions.com/petition/frozenfishforsushi/

Under regulation (EC) 853/2004, annex III, Section VIII, Chapter III, D, 1. all unprocessed fishery products, intended to be eaten raw or almost raw (e.g. sashimi or sushi) require to have been frozen to -20C. Freezing of such fish may take place at any point in the supply chain prior to sale to the final consumer. Food businesses may choose to freeze the fish or the final product, including when the fish forms only part of the final product.

The effect of this on Yatai is that we can no longer serve local fish at its freshest. To do so will be breaking the law and Yatai could be closed down for good by Environmental Health.

Yatai will not take fresh local fish and freeze it then defrost it and serve it to you. It would breach everything that Yatai stands for.

Unfortunately, we have had no choice but to discontinue the service of the following: Salmon, Sea Bream, Sea Bass, Squid and turbot as sushi or sashimi as of the 21st of July. It is with great regret that we have to do this and I am sure you will be very disappointed also.

Yatai intends to fight this legislation by every means possible.

If you feel strongly about this, to write to your MP and MEP.

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/frozenfishforsushi/
