As you may have heard, Yatai is moving back to our old address at 75 Skene Street. It has been a very challenging time here at Langstane Place and collectively we have decided that it’s best for Yatai to return home.
We feel very strongly that the intimate focus of the restaurant has been diluted over the past few months. The scale of the restaurant here at Langstane place has affected the creativity in both the kitchen and front of house.
Yatai was started in an effort to be as unique and Japanese orientated as possible and since we have moved, this has slowly slipped away. Though the old premises is smaller, we feel that we have far more control there and are far more able to provide the very best in quality, knowledge and Japanese culture.
When we reopen, we will be using as much organic/seasonal/local produce as possible with a new menu and a large list of daily specials. It was a mistake for us to move to Langstane Place and that is clear now. The experience has been extremely valuable in clarifying what Yatai stands for and what we hope to achieve.
Less is more.
